Free flight is very skillful to do in aeromodeling, you have to trim it perfectly, you have to set the rudder at the right angle and have to balance the CG perfectly. You have to launch at the right angle to get the best result. I had flown electric powered my scratch built scale model Santos-Dumont Demoiselle on a very large field and did my longest flight time is 6 min 39 sec, a lot of people were watching my best attempt ever, it flew so far that I had to use a binocular to track it and they clapped to me after I tell to them that it landed (it went 960m away from the launch site and its estimated max altitude is >150m)

Efficiency; BWB is more aerodynamically efficient, less energy in for se same work accomplished. 2. Volume; more volume with same energy and structural capacities. Interesting that it is showing lift being generated by how the Air flows over the wing ! Which has now been debunked ! Perhaps part of the problem ? 🤔....?

Just from the Thumbnail, I would think he would need a gear box, to increase the propeller rotation ? Where as in a Balsa Airplane, the mechanical advantage is far greater, as compared to the size and weight of the toy ! The scaled up version, Not so much ? Now I'll watch the video....! Lol !

5:53 Thank you dfor pumping the brakes on the toroidal hype train. I understand the benefits of them but have not yet seen any evidence to support it. I have noticed they are quieter and slightly more efficient but l have not seen enough proof to prove that their increased mass, especially rotationally will result in better real world efficiency. I'm not saying that it is not true but I am just saying there is not enough proof out there yet to come to a clear conclusion.

The second you asked if you should add a elevator servo I was immediately shouting yes at the screen. Based on the video that I saw them I am not sure that they would have made much of a difference. They may have prevented you from going upside down but I definitely think you would have needed more thrust to gain the control authority that you needed to gain control of the aircraft again.

3:51 This reminds me very much of gliders I see at the RC flying field. They will stay up in the air for hours if you can catch thermals but they just shoot up into the sky like I rock it initially. It is so fun to watch them as it is next to the dog park and I constantly see them flying overhead of me even though it is not part of the field.

Drop the weight by fropping the wheels. You could also stretch the rubberband when winding to gain much more power. Lubricating the rubberband with glycerin also helps in protecting the rubberband and allowing more winds.

Really cool! My guess for why we don't do that with airplanes is if you have an engine failure, the moment created by the operating engine exceed any amount of rudder you can put in to stay straight.

It looks like at the end, where you had amazing success with the flights, the footage is flipped 180 degrees. I.e. the propeller is rotating backwards. Clockwise. Where as some of the other footage shows it rotating counterclockwise to power the flight. Small detail, but otherwise congratulations on achieving flight. It’s a beautiful upgrade of a toy we have all played with. Very cool project. Also, really appreciate seeing your process (trial and errors). Obviously ending with the culmination of all your hard work. **Also learned something new here. Had no idea that the toy predated the Wright Brothers flight. That’s amazing that a toy airplane played a role in the development of real airplanes.

You guys remember like oh 5 years + ago some of the Swiss guys were working on something called the Glorietta hand launch PC system? it was this PC that sat under your right hand and by letting to it ejected away and started deployment of the main. Sorry i can't seem to find a video.....but i recall it being tested and found effective but never put into practice....
